Dog Training Services
We are here to help you and your dog with your training or behavior modification needs. Using positive reinforcement, we are helping you build a bond that will last a lifetime. We do not tools such as prong/pinch collars, choke collars, shock collars or leash “corrections” in our training as we want to build a relationship of trust and understanding. Training is about motivation and teaching your dog that it’s fun and rewarding to do the things that you ask of them. No matter what trainer you go with, remember that the dog training industry is completely unregulated. So, no licensing or credentials are required for someone to set up shop as a dog trainer. See the position statement HERE from the AVSAB (American Veterinary Society for Animal Behavior) on choosing a dog trainer.

Puppy and Teenage Socials – The Kentucky Humane Society is now offering Puppy Socials (puppies 8-15 weeks) and “Teenage” Puppy Socials (puppies 4-6 months). This program started in 2020 when a record number of puppies found their forever home during the pandemic – and just like us, they had limited opportunities to socialize. This program has been so successful for our pups and their families that we decided to continue! All young dogs should learn how to make new friends. Living with other dogs is great but meeting new dogs is an important life skill that takes practice and early socialization is key. Proper socialization is immensely important to help ensure your puppy will grow into a happy, well-adjusted and confident dogs which helps reduce future problems such as fear, anxiety and anti-social behavior. The price for 3-week Puppy Socials is $75.
This isn’t just your pup’s regular playgroup! Puppy and “Teenage” Socials are composed of three 45-minute sessions of age-appropriate socialization exercises and off-leash play, all overseen and coached by one of our professional trainers. Your new puppy or “teenage” pup will learn about sounds like a doorbell, thunder and a vacuum, have the opportunity to explore new items and textures, and learn that people in sunglasses, masks, hats and hoods aren’t spooky at all! My socials are taught at the KHS’S EAST CAMPUS, 1000 Lyndon Lane.

What Clients Have to Say
Every new puppy owner needs a Canine Professor. I am so pleased with Cherie at the Canine Professor. I believe every new puppy owner needs to be taught how to get the best dog by getting early training. Happy puppy=happy parent. Cherie uses positive reinforcement and it works! The last puppy I had was 30 years ago and there is a huge improvement in training. Cherie has been training for 18 years and is so knowledgeable about dogs. And she knows a breed’s temperament. I have a spicy Havanese and she’s helped us get through this smart girl’s bitey puppy stuff. Cherie has given us tools for a happy lifetime together. I give her the highest marks for being the best trainer out there. She can field every issue and help solve the problem. When the owner is trained and consistent, everybody is happy. Daisy and I are so glad we found you!
